October Competition Results
The local photography club's October themed competition happened a few days ago, and I'm just now finding time to write about it. There was no theme, so it was anything goes as far as submissions were concerned. The judge is a local landscape, macro, and wildlife photographer, who has also dabbled in air show and rodeo photography.
For this competition, I entered 2 color digital photos, 1 color print, and 1 black and white print. I thought I had an interesting collection of photos, but wasn't sold on one of them (the Lake District sailboat), but went ahead with my gut feeling. The curvy road with deer on it was a no brainer for me, as was the black and white air show photo, but the Lake District sailboat photo and the covered bridge photo from Madison County Nature Trail weren't easy choices. They showed off fall colors, which I thought would be a hit given the time of the year, but they weren't great photos. Technically sound, and something I'd print, but not necessarily something I should have entered into a best of competition. I'm still learning about all of this.
Overall, the competition was stiff. There were a lot of great photos, seriously, and I thought the judge did a great job with it. When it was all over, my curvy road deer picture walked away with an honorable mention. No other photo placed. And I am okay with that.
With one more competition left in the year, I am in 6th place with 32 points and 14 wins on the year. My goal for the year was to have 15 wins and I am one shy of that. If I get 7 points in November's competition, I will have made Bronze and Silver in 1 year.
I think I am firmly in the top 10, but there are 6 of us with 28 points to 36 points all bunched up so I could finish lower than 6th. In my opinion, the highest I could finish is 4th, stranger things have happened. So, that will be three years in a row in the top 10. I am pleased with that. Now, here were my 4 entries.
