About
It all started in 2007 with a Fuji FinePix S700, but it wasn't until a trip to the Oregon coast in 2010 that I became obsessed with photography. Not satisfied with a casual point-and-shoot approach, I bought an entry level DSLR (Canon Rebel XS/1000D) and 2 lenses after that trip, intent on taking great photos. The new kit was an huge upgrade, but my skills were horrendous, which I have been constantly working on via lots of practice and education. Of course, that new camera did not last long, it has been upgraded many times since then, same with the first camera bag and the first tripod. To read about the current state of my gear, click here.

Art in many forms has always been something I enjoyed, and yearned to do, yet I never felt comfortable making art or even sharing it until I picked up a camera. I love being outdoors, and I feel just as comfortable walking the streets of a city, slipping down alleys, exploring the nooks and crannies, as I do in the countryside, hiking up a hill or wading in a creek to capture a moment. My life truly changed for the better after exploring my creativity with photography. It has helped me get outside more. When outdoors with my camera, I am happy and at peace.

Outside of photography, being outdoors experiencing any activity I can is where I love being. I can be found most often on a trail somewhere, hiking, occasionally for a run. Many years back I was into auto racing -- drag racing and autocross -- but time and money caused those interests to wane. However, I still consider myself an automobile enthusiast and love road trips.

North Alabama is my home, but I have photographed all over the world -- Alaska, Iceland, Patagonia, England, Scotland, Kauai, and many places all over the continental US. 2025 is wide open for photography outings. In March I have a workshop scheduled for the badlands of Utah. Past that, the schedule is not set. I will be in Colorado Springs, Colorado in June or July, or both, but past that, my schedule isn’t set in stone. I would like to do some US trips next year. I’d love to return to Pittsburgh, even an Oregon coast trip would be amazing, so would that elusive Texas desert roadtrip too. I will have to put some thought into my 2025, stayed tuned in to hear more!
