July Competition Results

Last night I attended the local photography club's competition meeting for July. The theme for the month was open, so that meant anything goes. Honestly, that theme can be difficult because all genres get tossed into the competition. And the judge has to evaluate landscapes against portraits against street against macro, you get the idea. For my selections, I decided on two color prints and two color digital photos.

The two digital prints I submitted were of a sunrise in the Bentonite Hills of Utah from this last March, and of a lake scene from the Lake District of England last October. Neither placed. The judge has been a long time judge for the group, and he had good constructive criticism for most photos, but I didn't get too much or ask for any more from these 2 entries. Mainly because it felt like he struggled with the color photos. His only comment was he wasn't looking for people standing on a hill, which was part of my Bentonite Hills sunrise photo, and he wasn't looking for a person crossing into a scene as the photo was being taken which was my Lake District photo. Here they are.

In the color prints I submitted, my Lake District photo of Derwentwater with Catbells in the distance won 3rd place, while my photo of a parrot from Nashville Zoo did not place, but it sounded like it was in the mix until the final selections. Anyway, pretty pleased with a 3rd place finish which now puts me at 18 points for the year, and 8 total wins. With 4 months to go, I need 21 points to get Bronze and Silver status in the club. I would like to do that. Next month's competition theme is formations, which after a trip to the Grand Canyon and Utah, I think I have a nice lot of images to start from. Anyway, here is my 3rd place photo and my other submission.
