May Competition Results

The competition results have been posted to the local club’s website and I think I did pretty well. I won 1st place in black and white with this photo.

The judge’s notes are as follows: “Sharp focus and composition with good use of lights and darks to pull in the eye. Lighting is well balanced. Nicely captured fine details of the flower and water droplets help evoke a feeling of fascination and wonder.”

Ok, so I am pretty stoked about winning first place with a photo I took on the day before the submission deadline. I believe this was a 35 image focus stack. I love the composition, and water droplets too. Just a great photo, but I honestly liked the next one better. This photo garnered an honorable mention in color digital.

I thought it was better in every way, but, alas, the judge did not think so. Here are his notes: “Striking closeup with excellent details of the water droplets. The image evokes a feeling of a cool dewy morning in the garden. Some darkening of the background highlights would help better emphasize the bud.”

Overall, pretty pleased with the results. This puts me with 9 points on the year, one 1st place finish and 4 honorable mentions. Next month’s theme is North Alabama/Southern Tennessee. I’ll be ready for that!
