June Competition Results

Portraits of People. Yep, that was the theme for June. If you have seen any of my photos, you'll know, outside of concert photography, I do not take photos of people. Just don't enjoy it. Bodies of water might splash water all over me and my gear, but it never complains. Buildings don't gripe about how I didn't get its good side. And trees never throw a fit about losing their leaves. You get the point, right? It's the human element I dislike.

All that being said, I had an opportunity to get some photos of my niece a few weeks back, but our schedules did not align. She's the perfect model. My sister is, or was, a portrait photographer for most of my niece's life. She even offered to give some tips. It's summer, vacations happen, so it never happened. So, I submitted some concerts photos. Two of the four I submitted, I am really proud of. They did not receive any attention from the judge, and I am okay with that. I didn't even attend the meeting. I needed some mental time away from it.

Honestly, the competitions are beginning to feel like the book club I was in for 10 years. Over time, the monthly books became more and more difficult to swallow. I had very little time to read for pleasure, and many of the monthly choices did not suit my palate. I fell out of love with the club. Our numbers were down, we only had 5 or 6 members, and the librarian was looking to replace our time slot with something different. I, along with the other leader of the group decided to step away from the group, which meant it was disbanded that night. I don't think I read a book for a few months, this was down from 40-50 a year. So, the club competitions are beginning to feel like this. We'll see how I feel in a few months, but for now, my June submissions felt like a relief. Submit my best and take the month off.

Next month is Open, but the photos must have been taken after April 1st of this year. I have so many great candidates. Anyway, here are the two I submitted that I absolutely adore.
