July’s Competition Results
The local club’s monthly competition was last night with the theme being Open. The caveat was that the photo had to be taken after April 1st of this year. Of my submitted photos, 2 of the 4 placed. I did really well considering I have been in a bit of photography slump, or maybe I can call it a creative standstill. Anyway, my photo of a canola farm near Decatur, Alabama won 1st place in Color Print, and my photo of a canola field surrounding an old oak tree in Madison, Alabama won an honorable mention in Digital Color. My two Saturn V rocket photos did not place.
I came into the competition with 12 points and 7 wins. The 1st place win was worth 5 points while the honorable mention was worth 1 point which brought my yearly total to 18 points and 9 wins. That puts me 7 points away from achieving Silver and Gold in the same year. Once I achieve Gold, I will need 40 points to achieve Master in the club. With 4 competitions left, 2 of them being brutal for me (Street and Still Life), I would love to get more than 7 to make Master achievable by the end of next year.
I’ve still not finished all of my Scotland and Norway pictures, and a few random photo shoots all over town. And I want to get downtown 2-3 times a week to get deep into the street photography, and my still life ideas are accumulating every day. It’s going to be a busy few months. I’m excited!
