For once, a reduction in gear
Anyone who has read this blog knows I love new gear. There’s always something new and shiny I must have. And I rarely if ever tell myself no when it comes to new gear. However, I do not like to sit on unused gear. With over 10 lenses in the arsenal, I had lots of unused gear.
The holy trinity of lenses used to include a 14-35mm, a 24-70mm, and a 70-200mm. Now that I have gotten into bird photography, the 70-200mm has been replaced with a 100-500mm lens. If I am traveling, the RF 100-400mm will likely be in the bag since it is considerably lighter and the image quality is really great. So, the 70-200 found a new home this week and is currently on its way to California. Also finding a new home in California is my 24-240mm lens. I bought it to replace my 24-105 and the 70-200mm lens for travel. However, I just never bonded with it. It was heavy, and I just didn’t think the image quality was great. Perhaps I never really gave it a shot. Anyway, it was shipped today.
Also leaving the house this week is my old EF 100-400mm lens. The front element has a minor abrasion on it, so I am sending it to MPB.com as a heavily used lens. The quote is about half what I paid for it a few years back, but it is a redundant piece of gear and I will take whatever I can get to move on from it.
And finally, the Sony RX100 VII is on the market. I saw a WTB post today for one and have reached out to the person wanting it. I loved the idea of the camera, but I just never used it enough to justify hanging on to it. For now, I will stick with my Canon R5 and R7.
Now I guess I need to update my gear page!
