Indian Creek Greenway Swamp

The past 2 weekends I have visited a local swamp to try to capture some herons in action. And maybe a kingfisher. The herons are almost always there, that is when I don't have a camera with me. When I have a camera, it seems they're shy and either hide or are planted in a tree 100 yards away. Kingfishers don't sit still very long, unless they are eating, so catching one requires patience, timing, and knowing where to be. I have not perfected those things to ever photograph a kingfisher. What I didn't expect to see in the swamp, shocked me when I saw it.

Both weekends a Green Heron posed for almost the entirety of my photo outing. They weren't hunting, mostly just standing around doing Green Heron things. A Blue Heron appeared on the 2nd weekend, but wasn't close, even for my 100-500 on my Canon R7. But I managed to capture a few photos of it drying out in a tree. And then the surprising thing, I saw an otter. I've never seen one in the nearby creek or in the swamp before, and didn't really know I had captured it until I got home and starting editing. I saw movement, thought it was a duck, took 6-7 photos and was shocked when I saw them on my computer monitor. It isn't a great photo, but will stand as proof of an otter in the swamp.

Here are a handful of photos from this incredible place.
